Local Rescue Squad Fails To Get Financial Rescue

Posted Updated

ANGIER, N.C. — Harnett County commissioners upheld a decision Tuesday to shut down a local rescue squad because of budget concerns.

Last week, the county commission announced there was not enough money in the budget to cover the Angier Black River Rescue Squad.

Over the weekend, squad members and volunteers collected more than 4,000 signatures on a petition asking that the squad be reinstated. The petition was presented to Harnett County commissioner Tuesday morning.

The plan is for Harnett County EMS and the Angier Fire Department to take over the responsibilities of the rescue squad.

County commissioners say they are more than confident that will work, but one emergency official says a larger staff will be needed.
