Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — Bond was reduced, then raised back for a former instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who turned into an international fugitive.
John Dye fled his home in Durham for the Dominican Republic earlier this year. According to warrants, Dye fled after learning he was wanted on several counts of sexual abuse in October.
Authorities returned him to Durham Tuesday. Dye was initially held in lieu of a $3 million bond. The bond was reduced to $300,000, but then raised back to $3 million.
Police say they uncovered more than 450 sexually explicit images showing Dye having sex with a girl between the ages of 15 and 16.
