More than 21% of North Carolina's four-year-olds enrolled in the state's pre-kindergarten programs during the 2022-2023 school year, up from the prior year but still below the state's pre-pandemic highs, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research.

<b>RALEIGH, N.C.</b> — The Wake County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday arrested a man wanted in South Carolina for child abduction. He had the abducted 12-year-old with him.

The arrest occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m., when the Wake County Sheriff's  Impact Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 and Highway 70. The  driver of the vehicle was identified as Frank White, of 67 Cherokee Hill  Circle, Hazard, Ky.

White was being held at the Wake County Jail Tuesday night under a  $500,000 secured bond.

Sheriff's deputies took the child to the Wake County Sheriff's office.  South Carolina authorities were notified and were to pick the child up at  the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

And in North Carolina, a woman gave birth in a car after an emergency room couldn't offer an ultrasound. The baby later died.
