Wake County Restaurants Sign Up To Go Smoke Free

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Smokers may have to put on the brakes before they enter some local restaurants. A new smoke-free program was announced Friday.

No-smoking establishments will display a decal in the shape of a stoplight and a certificate near their sanitation grades. About 150 restaurants already signed up.

is behind the program. It also is working with the town of Cary to promote smoke-free restaurants and bars there.

The new program was announced about two weeks after a Moore County hospital decided to be the first N.C. hospital to go smoke free. On July 4, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and all FirstHealth properties kick the habit.
