RALEIGH, N.C. — Hydrilla is taking over parts of Lake Gaston.
For now, lake residents who live in Northampton County will not have to pay an extra tax to pay for cleaning up the pesky plant.
County Commissioners decided not levy the tax until the other counties around the lake agree to pay their share.
In the meantime, the group in charge of cleaning the hydrilla out of the lake will use state money to spray herbicides and buy grass-eating carp.
It has been estimated that nearly 20 percent of the lake is infested.
