Former Cumberland Jailers Plead Guilty To Smuggling Items To Inmates

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two female jailers at the center of a scandal at the Cumberland County Detention Center pleaded guilty Tuesday to passing on messages and weapons to prisoners.

Latoya Swartz and Promises Ward were orgininally accused of having sex with inmates, but the charges were dismissed.

Swartz pleaded guilty to three felony counts and was sentenced to a minimum of a year in prison.Ward pleaded guilty to four counts and was sentenced to a minimum of six months in prison.
