HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a body in Hope Mills.

Police stopped a car at the intersection of Cumberland and Hope Mills road, suspecting the driver might be intoxicated. After further investigation, officers discovered the body of Bladen County native Samuel Smith in the trunk of the car.

Authorities charged the car's driver, Brian McArn, and his passenger, Belinda Moore, with first-degree murder. Detectives believe they robbed Smith before killing him.

On Tuesday, investigators searched Moore's apartment in Lumberton. They believe the murder may have occurred there.

After three hours of searching, authorities left her apartment with coolers and bags with evidence. Investigators said both suspects have been cooperative with them.

McArn and Moore are being held without bond at the Robeson County Jail.
