Athens Drive H.S. Students Will No Longer Select Presidents Based On Race

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Students at Athens Drive High School will no longer elect class presidents based on race.

Students used to elect a white class president and a minority class president.

School officials say the system was intended to get minority students more involved in student government.

Some students felt it sent the wrong message.

Next year, students will still elect two class presidents, but there will be no stipulations.
