Auditor's Office: UNC Skirted Procedure When Hiring Company To Wash Stadium

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill may face trouble for not following the state's purchasing rules.

The university did not allow companies to bid for the job of power-washing Kenan Stadium. According to the state auditor's office, UNC-CH hired the same local company for three years in a row.

The university claims that each job was about $5,000 -- not large enough to bid on.

Investigators claim the university was skirting proper procedures.
