<b>HARNETT COUNTY, N.C.</b> — An 8-year-old girl who brought a handgun to school will not be coming back for awhile. The third-grader is suspended for 365 days.

The girl, who attends Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School, will not be allowed back in class until sometime next school year. The 8-year-old also faces juvenile charges.

The gun was in the girl's book bag. It was not discovered until she was on the school bus on her way home.
