Harnett Third-Grader Suspended For Year For Bringing Gun To School

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — An 8-year-old girl who brought a handgun to school will not be coming back for awhile. The third-grader is suspended for 365 days.

The girl, who attends Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School, will not be allowed back in class until sometime next school year. The 8-year-old also faces juvenile charges.

The gun was in the girl's book bag. It was not discovered until she was on the school bus on her way home.

The gun was not loaded.
