Pig Cooker Led To Logging Truck Wreck On U.S. 64 Bypass

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A pig cooker led to an accident involving a logging truck on the U.S. 64 Bypass at the Centura Highway exit just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Billy Ray Daniels, 66, of Rocky Mount, was driving a 1978 Ford Pick-up truck carrying a pig cooker when it broke free from the truck and traveled into the roadway.

Michael Elliot, 30, of Williamston, was driving a logging truck when he lost control of his vehicle while trying to avoid the pig cooker. The logging truck hit a guard rail, causing it to lose its load.

Road crews closed two lanes to clear logs littering the highway. The scene was cleaned up four hours later and traffic is back to normal in the area.

There were no injuries in the accident. Daniels was charged with failure to secure load.
