Soldier Killed, Two Injured In Fayetteville Wreck

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police say a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg was killed in a wreck on Shaw Road Thursday morning.

Police say the Honda CRX driven by Christopher Butler, 21, crossed the centerline and hit a Mazda head-on just after 6 a.m.

Butler, of the 20th Engineering Battalion, died at the scene.

A woman driving the Mazda and a 1-year-old passenger were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Police say it appears Butler was not wearing a seatbelt and that wet road conditions may have played a factor in the accident.
