DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police investigators have identified two pedestrians killed Sunday when they were struck by a train in downtown Durham.
Police say Horace Edward Hart, 50, of East Main Street and Richard Couch, 43, of EstesStreet were walking west on the train tracks between Corcoran and Roxborostreets when the accident happened around 4:15 p.m.
The conductor of a westbound Norfolk & Southern train told police he saw the men on the tracks and blared the train's horn in warning several times, butthe men did not move out of the way.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. No one on the train was injured.
