Fayetteville Cop Will Not Face Charges For Shooting Suspect

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville police officer accused of shooting a suspect during an undercover drug bust last fall will not face charges.

Prosecutors say Detective Terrance Phillips feared for his safety when he shot Claybrook Adams.

Officers say Adams was trying to hit them with his car. Adams was not seriously hurt.

Even though a judge later ruled that scenario out, prosecutors still believe Phillips acted reasonably.

The State Bureau of Investigation is still investigating a

similar incident

that happened a month later.
