LILLINGTON, N.C. — Police have cleared the scene of an accident involving a train and two cars Monday morning on Highway 401, and traffic is back to normal in the area.

The accident happened around 7:40 a.m. about 7 miles north of Lillington.

A train hit a vehicle on the tracks. The driver, Sarah Bowman, got out before the impact, and no one was hurt.

Sarah Bowman, 24, of Fuquay Varina, was the driver of the car that was hit. The car is a total loss.

Police said Bowman's car rear-ended the car of Nancy Roof, 56, of Morrisville on the railroad tracks, pushing Roof's car off the tracks. Bowman's car stopped on the railroad tracks, where Bowman abandoned it.

Bowman was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
