Two Dead, Five Wounded In Kinston Shooting

Posted Updated

KINSTON, N.C. — Two people were killed and five were wounded in a shooting early Friday, authorities said.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired about 4 a.m. found five people who had been shot at a house, authorities said. One of them was dead and four were wounded. A fifth victim with a leg wound later arrived on his own at a hospital.

Shortly after responding to the call, occupants in a black Nissan Altima that had been stopped by police dumped a second body onto the street and drove off before the officer got out of the car, said police spokesman Woody Spencer. Police later found the car abandoned on the city's north side and searched it for evidence Friday, he said.

Shanikia Coward, 26, and Berretta Campbell, 30, both of Kinston, as well as Lovell Perry, 32, of Charlotte, were treated and released. Tiran Farris, 22, and Terry Miller, 36, both of Kinston, remained hospitalized.

The identities of the deceased were Donta Suggs, 21, of Kinston; and Lageana Roxanne Brown, 25, also of Kinston.

Authorities are searching for two men in connection with the case: Derek Level Suggs, 21, of Kinston; and Milton Lee Jones, 27, of Kinston. Each are wanted on charges of warrant.
