RALEIGH, N.C. — The skyline of downtown Raleigh is getting an update.

Tuesday morning, RBC Centura announced plans for its new headquarters downtown.

The building will be at the corner of

Martin and Fayetteville streets

.

It will be 29 stories tall, making it one of the tallest buildings downtown.

It includes not only the bank, but office space, parking and 140 condos on the top nine floors of the building.

The $100 million project is expected to open by the fall of 2008.

RBC Centura announced in August it would move its headquarters from Rocky Mount to downtown Raleigh to give the bank better access to its markets.

The bank already has 300 employees in Raleigh and expects that number to grow to 500 by 2009.

RBC Centura is the U.S. subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada, located in Toronto, and has $20 billion in assets. The company has more than 3,600 employees in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida and 273 outlets.

The RBC Center will be the third high-rise to go up in Raleigh in the last few years. Just a little more than a year ago, Progress Energy built a new $100 million high-rise downtown.

The City Council also recently approved a 42-story tower, called the Soleil Center, near Crabtree Valley Mall. Expected to be the city's tallest building, construction is expected to begin on it early next year.
