Raeford College Students Killed In Wreck Near Greensboro

Posted Updated

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three 19-year-old women were killed when their car slammed into a tree just off a Guilford County road and split in half, the State Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

The car's driver, Carla Maria Marshall of Raeford, was wearing a seatbelt, the state patrol said. Two passengers were ejected after the wreck late Tuesday -- Lynai Bree Thorne, of Raeford, and Tiffany Helene Kittrell, of Alexandria, Va.

All three victims, who were students at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, died at the scene along U.S. 421 about 10 miles south of Greensboro in southeast Guilford County, emergency workers said.

The car struck a tree around 10:30 p.m. and the impact ripped the vehicle in half, authorities said. The vehicle's front section slid partly down an embankment, while the rear portion rested closer to the roadway.

State troopers are trying to figure out what caused the accident.
