Erskine Bowles - UNC System President
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A vote Monday could mark the start of a new era for the University of North Carolina system.

The UNC Board of Governors is expected to name Charlotte investment banker Erskine Bowles the system's next president.

Bowles served as President Bill Clinton's chief of staff and twice ran for U.S. Senate in 2002 and 2004.

A 1967 graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill, Bowles unanimously won the support of the presidential search committee and is expected to be approved by the full board Tuesday.

If approved, Bowles will start on Jan. 1 and replace Molly Broad, who has led the 16-campus system since 1997.
