Defense Gets Evidence In Sapikowski Murder Case
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — A Chapel Hill teenager accused of killing his parents was transferred Wednesday to a state mental hospital after telling authorities that he is suicidal.

Adam Sapikowski, 17, is charged in the shooting deaths of his father, James Sapikowski, 52, and his mother, Alison Sapikowski, 49. The couple's bodies were found in their house last May.

"I am having trouble with self injurious behavior," Sapikowski wrote on an inmate grievance/request form at the Orange County Jail. "My request is to be placed on some kind of suicide watch or something. I am having to (sic) much trouble handling it and I don't want to end in doing something crazy/stupid. Please help me with this.''

Since the jail does not have the resources to deal with mental illness, Sapikowski was transferred to Umstead Hospital in Butner.

Sapikowski's laywer, James Williams, has said the slayings were rooted n both physical and emotional abuse.
