Autopsy: Halifax County Man Died Of Natural Causes

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Police say the results of an autopsy show a man found dead on a Halifax County highway died of natural causes.

Authorities said 31-year-old Jeffrey Hunsucker had been called a"John Doe" because when he was found he had no shirt and no identification.

A woman who called 911 said she saw Hunsucker along I-95, near mile marker 169, who was staggering and then collapsed.

Hunsucker died Wednesday after being placed on life-support equipment Tuesday nightat Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. Authorities say he died of congestive heart failure.

Investigators first thought someone beat Hunsucker and dumped his body along I-95. His van was found along a farm path not far from the interstate. They said a lawn mower has been stolen from the van.
