FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — A chlorine leak at Fuquay-Varina's sewage plant forced an evacuation Thursday morning.
Town manager John Ellis says workers at the plant discovered the leak from two cylinders.
Officials said at least 100 gallons of chlorine went into the air and ordered an evacuation within a half-mile radius of the plant.
While about 100 homes were affected by the evacuation order, many people had already left for work or school.
Hazmat crews were on the scene. No injuries were reported.
Officials have since given the all-clear for the area.
