WARREN COUNTY, N.C. — The Highway Patrol said Monday that searchers have recovered the driver of a sports utilityvehicle that crashed into Lake Gaston Friday night.

According to the Highway Patrol, 43-year-old David Anthony Colondres of Raleigh was found in a 2003 LincolnNavigator that witnesses said lost control on a slick road and rolled down an embankment into the water in Warren County.

Authorities say the SUV was 40 feet down near the Eatons Ferry Bridge.

The Warren County sheriff said that Colondres was found still in the driver's, with his seat belt still on. He was taken to the Medical Examiner's office in Chapel Hill to determine cause of death.

The sheriff said the Lincoln veered to the left, hit the guard rail and went in.

Searchers were trying Monday to find out whether anyone else was traveling with Colondres. That information will determine whether the search should continue for another body in the lake.

Colondres had been reported missing in Wake Co. after failing to show up for a meeting at the lake last Friday. He was last seen about 3 p.m. on Friday.
