Posted Updated

FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — The owner of a mud-sling track in Franklin County where one person died and several others were injured accepted a plea Monday.

Hugh Williams faced three misdemeanor charges for not having proper permits to hold a mud-sling event at his track. Williams pleaded no contest to one of the charges Monday. The other two charges were dropped.

Candace Brown was killed and 18 others were injured when a modified jeep plowed into a crowd of spectators at Five County Raceway.

The judge granted Williams a prayer for judgment. He will only have to pay court costs. There will be no fine.
