RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials with the state Department of Correction say two inmates who jumped a razor wire fence and escaped from Nash Correctional Institution have been captured.
Department spokesman Keith Acree says Demetrius Harris and Danny Richardson were arrested by police at about 1 p.m. Tuesday in Baltimore, Maryland.
The pair was apprehended by Baltimore police officers on a city street and offered no resistance at the time of their arrest. They will be charged with felony escape and returned to North Carolina.
The 26-year-old Harris was serving an 18.5-year sentence on a second-degree murder conviction in Durham County last year. A Nash County judge sentenced the 29-year-old Richardson in 1998 to 48 years for first-degree rape and several other charges.
