RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Highway Patrol is reopening its internal investigation of a trooper accused of racial profiling.
A Superior Court judge ruled last week that Trooper Clinton Carroll had engaged in racial profiling in pulling over 34-year-old Rodriguez "Juan" Villeda.
The judge dismissed a drunk-driving case against Villeda.
In May, the patrol found no evidence of ethnic profiling and cleared Carroll of wrongdoing.
Sergeant Everett Clendenin says the patrol is reopening its investigation after hearing new evidence from witnesses' testimony.
Upon his request, Carroll was transferred from Durham in August and now patrols Alamance County.
