K&W Co-Founder Dies at 74

HIGH POINT — A man who made a living feeding hungry peopleand made his name by giving away his time and money has died.

Grady Thomas Allred Junior of High Point died Wednesday at hishome after a battle with cancer. He was 74-years-old.

Allred was founder and president of both K-and-W Cafeterias andJ-and-S Cafeterias.

An active member of the High Point Rotary Club and the Y.M.C.A.,he was a past president of the North Carolina RestaurantAssociation and a former director of the National RestaurantAssociation. Former Governor Jim Hunt appointed him to the NorthCarolina Commission of Health and Human Services.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 9p.m.today at CumbyFamily Funeral Service. A memorial service will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emerywood Baptist Church.
