Cobras Look To Stay On Top Of Eastern Division With Matchup With Toronto Saturday

RALEIGH — With four weeks remaining in the ArenaFootball League's 15th anniversary season, the second-year Carolina Cobrascontrol their own playoff destiny. The Cobras currently hold a 1/2 gamelead in the National Conference Eastern Division and travel north of theborder to face the Toronto Phantoms this Saturday, June 30, 3 p.m. at AirCanada Centre. The game will be broadcast locally on UPN (Channel 28) withTrey Bender and Tony Haynes calling the action.

Carolina (6-4) holds a slim half-game lead over the Buffalo Destroyers (6-5)in the Eastern Division. Toronto (4-6) and New York (4-6) are two gamesback but are still in the hunt for one of 12 playoff spots that areavailable in the Arena Football League post-season. Heading into thisweek's action, the Cobras are ranked No. 8 with four games remaining.

Twelve of the AFL's 19 teams will qualify for the post-season with theleagues top four teams (based on record) receiving a first round bye. Thefifth through eighth seeds will play host to a home playoff game. Accordingthe league rules, each division winner is guaranteed at least one homeplayoff game, regardless of overall record. The Cobras hold the edge in theEastern Division by defeating Buffalo twice and New York once. Carolinatravels to New York to face the Dragons next Saturday, July 7, 3 p.m. andhosts Los Angeles (July 13) and Toronto (July 20) in consecutive weeks toclose out the season.

Fans are encouraged to come out to Rudinos Rooftop (corner of Strickland andSix Forks in North Raleigh) on Saturday to watch the game with Cobrasreserve players, staff and Bud Light Snake Charmers. The Cobras promotionalteam will have numerous ticket and merchandise giveaways.
