Cisco Acquires Ethernet Semiconductor Firm

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cisco
is beefing up its Metro Ethernet product line by acquiring California-based Greenfield Networks.
Greenfield, which is privately held, develops and deploys semiconductors for use in Metro Ethernet networking products. The company also provides hardware and software for Ethernet packet processing. Greenfield has 60 employees. The firm was founded in 2000.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Greenfields products are highly complementary to Ciscos own offerings, according to Cisco.
