ASHEBORO, N.C. — Authorities canceled a statewide Amber Alert for an 8-year-old Asheboro boy after he was found unharmed early Sunday morning.

The alert was issued for Alder Martinez late Saturday after he was allegedly abducted by an unknown man.

Authorities said the man approached Martinez's residence to borrow jumper cables, claiming his vehicle was disabled. The Martinezes let the man borrow their silver Jeep Cherokee. The boy asked to ride with the man, and was family members gave permission, authorities said.

Investigators were searching the area near Martinez's home when they saw the boy walking along the street toward them just before 2 a.m. The jeep was abandoned.

Authorities later arrested Calvin Alexander Moore, 17, after the boy identified Moore's residence. He is charged with felony larceny of motor vehicle and abduction of children. He was in the Randolph County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond Sunday morning.

Authorities said Moore did not know Martinez, but lived a couple of miles away from him.
