Group Tries To File Charges Against Granville Pigeon Shoot

Posted Updated

OXFORD, N.C. — A national organization sought to file charges Friday to halt a controversial pigeon shoot in Granville County.

The Humane Society of the United States attempted stop the shoot by alleging it violates the state's animal cruelty law. The group says more than 50,000 birds are killed during the five-day tournament.

However, there is some discrepancy in whether the shoot actually violates the law. On Friday, the magistrate in Granville County said he would not accept the charges until further investigation.
