Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police said a man died after being struck by a train Thursday.

Authorities said at around 4 a.m., Lamar Eugene Dorman, 36, of Olympia, Wash., was sitting on the train tracks near West Main Street and Campus Drive when he was struck by a westbound Norfolk Southern train.

Investigators said the engineer saw Dorman and blew the train's horn, but Dorman did not move, and the train was unable to stop in time. Dorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a 2½-hour delay for authorities to conduct their investigation, the train was allowed to continue to its destination.
