Fairgoers Who Help Fight Hunger Get Free Admission

RALEIGH, N.C. — Thursday is Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at the State Fair.

Those who bring four cans of Food Lion-brand food to the gate will get into the fair for free.

The collection will go to the

Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina

. It will distribute the cans to needy people and hunger-relief agencies in several counties as well as with Second Harvest Food Banks in other regions, such as Fayetteville, Winston-Salem and Elizabeth City.

On Wednesday, people in uniform filled the midway during Military Appreciation Day.

, attendance is down this year at the fair from years past.
