Raleigh Man, Once Accused Of Murder Of Counselor, Heads To Jail

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man who avoided a trial on murder charges is going to prison for something else.

Derrick Bell pleaded guilty last week to various charges including assaulting a police officer. He will be jailed at least two years.

Officers said Bell led them on a high-speed chase last November.

In an unrelated case, prosecutors dismissed a murder charge against Bell in the drive-by shooting of YMCA counselor Pierre Williams in July 2002.
