80-Year-Old New Bern Man Honored With Carnegie Hero Fund Award

PITTSBURGH — An 80-year-old New Bern man who died tryingto save a woman and her child from a house fire is being honoredtoday by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.

Major Augustus Fisher died while trying to save Cynthia M. Davisand her one-year-old son Christian on September ninth, 2000.

Fisher entered the burning two-story house under the impressionthat Davis and her baby were still inside, when they had in factescaped through a second-floor window.

Fisher's body was later found on the first floor near thestairs.

In all, 24 people are to be honored by the commission inceremonies in Pittsburgh.
