Drivers With Storm-Damaged Cars Worry About Insurance Taking Hit

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — It is hurry up and wait at many auto body shops after this week's ice storm.

The wrecks rolling in are mainly fender benders from cars that went out of control on the ice.

While the cars are piling in, some repair shops said they cannot work on the wrecks until insurance companies inspect the damage.

On the other hand, other shops report business is surprisingly slow, because people would rather drive their fender benders than report them to their insurance company and pay a deductible.

For their part, insurance companies said they have not been especially busy either for the same reason.
