Local Cities, Counties Announce Schedule, Service Changes

RALEIGH, N.C. — Government offices in local cities and counties have announced changes in schedules and services as a result of Sunday's winter storm.

DURHAM

Durham city goverment offices reopen Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m.

  • The Mayor's State of the City address scheduled for Wednesday has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 2 at 7:30 a.m. at the American Tobacco complex.
  • This week's Solid Waste collection schedule is as follows:

    Household garbage:

  • Tuesday routes will be collected on Saturday.
  • Thursday and Friday will be collected as normal.
  • (Wednesdays are normally make-up days for missed collections.)
  • Yard Waste: collection is suspended for the rest of the week.
  • Recycling collection is canceled for Tuesday routes and will resume next week. Monday's (Jan. 26) recycling will be collected on Wednesday, while Thursday and Friday routes will be collected as normal.

  • ORANGE COUNTY

  • It is anticipated that recycling collection will run at least one day behind throughout the rest of the week (Wednesday routes serviced on Thursday, Thursday routes serviced on Friday, etc.), with routes regularly scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30 being serviced on Saturday, Jan. 31.
  • Orange County Solid Waste Convenience Centers will resume normal hours of operation on Thursday, Jan. 29.
  • CHAPEL HILL

  • Chapel Hill Transit is operating on its regular on schedule Thursday.
  • Garbage Collection:

  • Residential garbage collection resumes Thursday.
  • Collection of loose leaves has been temporarily suspended. Collection will resume as soon as conditions permit.
  • Town Meetings:

  • Monday's (Jan. 26) 5:30 Work Session and 7 p.m. Council meeting have been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 and 7 p.m. respectively.
  • The Budget Public Forum that was to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28, will be rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
  • WAKE COUNTY

    All Wake County Government offices will be open on their regular schedules Thursday. Check the county

    CARY

    Town of Cary offices and facilities will be open Thursday.

  • A decision regarding parks, recreation, and cultural resources programs will be made by 7 a.m.
  • Crews will collect solid waste Thursday. Customers are again reminded to bring their garbage to the curb since, for their safety and to protect yards, collection crews will not pick up garbage from backyards. Citizens who are not physically able to take their garbage to the curb can call customer service at (919) 469‑4090 to arrange for special assistance.
  • Cary's Transit Service, C-Tran, follows the same schedule as Wake County Public Schools and therefore, is not running Thursday. Those having reservations for Friday are encouraged to call C-Tran at (919) 481-4020.

Once all Monday residents receive a garbage collection, the crews will begin to collect the Tuesday routes, also at the curb. If needed, the crews will continue to work through Saturday so that all residents receive one garbage collection at the curb.

    PILOT PROGRAM RESIDENTS:

    Beginning at approximately noon Wednesday, Jan. 28, Tuesday's garbage will be collected. It is expected to be continued into Thursday. Once all Tuesday residents receive a garbage collection, the crews will begin to collect the Wednesday routes. If needed, the crews will continue to work through Saturday so that all residents receive one garbage collection.
