Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A local police department is one step closer to hiring the dozens of officers it needs.

Fayetteville police swore in 17 new officers on Friday.

The department is looking to fill roughly 60 jobs by the end of June when the city plans to annex a large part of Cumberland County.

Officers will have 28 more square miles to patrol.
