Immigration Hearing Begins For Former N.C. State Diving Coach

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — An immigration hearing in Atlanta could determine whether or not North Carolina State's former diving coach is allowed to stay in the country.

The hearing started Friday for John Candler. The native of England was ordered to be deported in 1998 after he failed to disclose a prior child molestation conviction on his application for citizenship. He has been appealing that order ever since.

Candler resigned from N.C. State in December after details of the 1966 conviction became public.

There is no word on when there will be a decision.
