Effort Under Way To Improve Adult Literacy In Triangle

RALEIGH, N.C. — According to the

Triangle Literacy Coalition

, one in five Triangle residents cannot read and/or write at a level to fill out a job application,read a prescription label or follow street signs.

A campaign designed to increase awareness of the services offeredby literacy groups in Durham, Orange and Wake counties and to recruit volunteers for thenonprofit coalition kicks off this week.

The multicultural campaign features public service announcments on TV, radio and in newspapers in English and Spanish.
