— Police have charged three people in connection with a 1999 slaying on Virgie Street.

Members of the Durham Police Department's Selective Enforcement Team took Daniel Shawn Fraley, 29, of Edith Street, into custody Tuesday. Investigators also arrested Richard Leighton Steele, 26, of Virginia Avenue.

Fraley is charged with murder, while Steele is charged with accessory before the fact of murder, police said.

Investigators are still trying to find Lee Brewer, 26, of State Street, who is wanted for murder.

The charges stem from the Feb. 2, 1999, slaying of 63-year-old Charles Johnson, who was found shot to death in the living room of his home at 1000 Virgie St., police said. He had been shot once in the head, and investigators said robbery and drugs appeared to be the motives for the murder.

The charges were filed after investigators reviewed the case, re-interviewed witnesses and re-examined evidence. At least two of three suspects knew Johnson, according to investigators.

Anyone with information on Brewer's whereabouts is asked to call the Durham Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 919-560-4440 or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
