Posted Updated

LEE COUNTY, N.C. — Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board started removing the wreckage from a plane crash in Lee County late Thursday.

Salvage crews will move the Cessna to a hangar in Georgia where the NTSB will continue to investigate why it crashed.

The pilot, Jaime Beingolea, was killed Wednesday when the plane took off from the Sanford/Lee County Regional Airport. His four passengers survived with only minor injuries.

They were headed to the Centennial of Flight Celebration on the Outer Banks.
