JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Johnston County has a green light to grow.
County commissioners approved a plan Monday that would create an Economic Development District. The idea is similar to the Research Triangle Park in Wake and Durham counties.
The district is centered around the pharmaceutical and industrial companies off of Highway 70. The companies can grow off their current sites and not be annexed by other area towns.
In exchange, the companies agree to pay a tax that would go toward a training center for area college students.
