SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford cemetery in financial trouble has gone to the highest bidder.
Lee Memory Gardens was auctioned off for $100,000. A bankruptcy court ordered the sale as a way to protect customers who say they were ripped off by the previous owner. Now, a new owner will have the task of sorting out who pays what.
According to lawyers, there is a good chance many customers will not ever see their money again. A bankruptcy court has to approve the sale.
