<b>FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C.</b> — Fuquay-Varina authorities are investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old girl Thursday on North West Street.

Authorities say Cassie Lyons was standing outside her  grandmother's house when she was approached by her ex-boyfriend, 17-year-old Antoine Nickerson. Witnesses say Nickerson wanted money to buy shoes.

When Lyons would not give him money, they started fighting, then he pulled out a gun and fired while some of Lyons' family watched.

Lyons is listed in critical condition at WakeMed. Nickerson was taken to the Fuquay-Varina Police Department.

Lyons and Nickerson have a 2-month-old baby together.
