DARE COUNTY, N.C. — Almost two months after Hurricane Isabel hit, residents of Hatteras Village are on the road to recovery.

Highway 12, the lifeline of the Outer Banks, reopened around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Isabel ripped through the road, creating an inlet north of Hatteras Village and practically cutting it off from the world.

After weeks of work, construction crews put finishing touches on Highway 12 and reopened it.

Right now, the village is only open to residents and property owners.
