SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police are searching for a suspect in connection with a home invasion and attempted rape.
The 82-year-old victim said she answered a knock on her door Sunday morning at her Evergreen Lane home.
The woman told police a young man forced his way inside, struck her in the face and then tried to sexually assault her.
The woman was slightly hurt. The suspect fled from the scene.
