Two Shot In Grantham Community

GRANTHAM, N.C. — The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal double shooting.

According to investigators, the Wayne County 911 center received a call from Johnnie Muriel Brock around 3 a.m. Monday. Brock stated that he and his wife, Peggy, had been shot in their home at 451 James Hinson Road. Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene along with patrol deputies.

Deputies said Peggy Brock, 45, was declared dead at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnnie Brock, 38, was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital after being shot 15 times. Brock, who is a volunteer firefighter and owner of the Bedrock Construction Company, is listed in serious condition.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation. Peggy Brock's body has been sent to Chapel Hill to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Authorities are not releasing many details about the shootings, but they are treating them as a murder and an attempted murder.
