NCDOT To Reopen Westbound I-40 Ramps At 15-501 In Durham County

Posted November 6, 2003 3:26 a.m. EST

— The state Department of Transportation will reopen the westbound Interstate 40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 in Durham County Monday beginning at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The DOT will close the eastbound I-40 ramps at U.S. 15-501 (exit 270) the same night. The ramps will remain closed for about 35 days.

During this time, motorists should use the following signed detours:

  • I-40 eastbound motorists needing to exit on U.S. 15-501 (exit 270) should travel to N.C. 54 (Exit 273) to I-40 West to U.S. 15-501 (Exit 270).
  • U.S. 15-501 motorists needing to travel on I-40 East should travel I-40 West to N.C. 86 (exit 266) to I-40 East.
  • Delays should be expected. Local commuters are encouraged to use an alternate route.

The ramp closings are necessary to raise the ramp pavement levels in conjunction with the I-40 widening project.

NCDOT reminds motorists to obey the posted speed limit of 55 mph, and be aware of construction workers in the work zone.
