DOT Officials Had Plans To Put Stoplight At Site Of Deadly Accident

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation had plans to put a stoplight at an intersection that was the scene of a deadly weekend accident.

The DOT began installing the stoplight in September after a study of accidents and traffic volume at the intersection of Nowell Road and Highway 54. The stoplight was not yet working Saturday night when the wreck happened. Six people were killed in the accident.

Officials say the accident was the third this year at the intersection. They also say there have been 19 accidents around that area over a three-year period.

New turn lanes have also been installed to help traffic flow.
